Speakers Bureau

All too often the homeless are viewed in a negative light, even dehumanized, without the recognition that they are someone’s family member—son or daughter, brother or sister, mother or father, aunt or uncle. Some generalize homeless people as lazy, criminal or illiterate degenerates that choose their situation.
As a partial solution to these negative stereotypes, Repairers of the Breach offers a speakers bureau of currently and formerly homeless individuals. Since 1989, our speakers bureau has given a voice to these misperceived men and women. Such “social outcasts” provide powerful testimony about the homeless plight, first hand, like no one else can. The result is often a further healing of the breach between the poor and the prosperous, the “haves” and the “have nots.” Our speakers bureau breaks down barriers to understanding that perpetuate the breach. It is typically the homeless who are the “repairers of the breach.”
