Center Resources
Here are the many and varied resources offered at the Repairers of the Breach Center:
- Sanctuary - a daytime refuge offering safety, solutions, sobriety and spiritual renewal;
- Living Room - a welcoming environment to reconnect with self and others;
- Community - a community of homeless men & women in transformation;
- Center "Ownership" - governance by homeless leaders & members, being ambassadors to visitors;
- Internship Program - members gain valuable work experience as temporary center associates;
- Women's Safe Haven - separate 4-room suite for women only, including a bathtub for pampering;
- Breach Café - licensed soup kitchen offering a continental breakfast and warm mid-day meal;
- Personal Care - showers, towels, toiletries, seasonal clothing and footwear;
- Free Clinic - diabetes & blood pressure screening, free referrals for vision, dental care & more;
- Communication Service - a “lifeline” offering telephone and voicemail (soon: PCs for e-mail access);
- Mail Service - a “lifeline” for receiving mail, an address for voting;
- Voter Initiatives - voter registration, transportation to polls, non-partisan voter education;
- Birth Certificates - free application to replace lost or stolen ID;
- Support Groups - AODA recovery, including AA, men's & women's issues support groups;
- AODA Services - screening and intake for placement in recovery programs (when available);
- Counseling Services - grief & general counseling, access to psychiatric nurses;
- Holiday Support - linkages to other holiday programs;
- Violence Reduction - anger management sessions, weekly topical sessions (when available);
- Learning Center - drop-in program for adult basic education (resuming in 2014);
- Employment Assistance - job preparedness, search and placement, training for workforce entry;
- Leadership Development - skill development while assisting with center operation, speakers bureau;
- Family Reunification - initiatives centering on family and life skills development (when available);
- Spiritual Fellowship - optional group scripture/prayer sessions - we are interfaith;
- Emergency 24-hour “warming room” when wind chill temperatures reach 10 degrees or below;
- Veterans Outreach - powerful weekly presence of Milwaukee Homeless Veterans Initiative;
- Stress Management - various topics, help with relationships, forgiveness, reconciliation (when available);
- Pain Management - healing sessions for chronic pain, physical therapy;
- Time & Money Management - skill development workshops (beginning in 2014);
- Talent Development - participation in choir, Women's Chorus, drama, arts & crafts;
- Linkages - to overnight shelters and other social services;
- Sleep Support - blankets and sleeping bags, sleeping area for third-shift homeless workers;
- Alumni Support - clothing & furniture for members who get housing, special activities and opportunities
