Special thank you to Pastor West and family for making their famous spaghetti dinner and for our volunteers who hosted another successful rummage sale!

Day to day living when you're housing unstable is no joke. Besides the challenges of finding housing, you must be constantly vigilant regarding your own safety and the safety of your stuff. Naturally, such stress can wear on you after a while. Conversely, it's been said that laughter is the best medicine. A July 29, 2021 article from the Mayo Clinic cites many benefits to laughter, such as soothing tension, reducing stress response, and even improving your immune system. Therefore, on August 13, a visit from Elvis Comedy was a wonderful treat for our Members, staff, and volunteers. Not only was the interactive show funny, but it gave everyone a chance to say something to our group, whether it be bars of encouragement to brave testimonials. We all physically and mentally benefitted from the event. A delicious turkey dinner was prepared by Mario and passed out by Doris, making this "dinner and a show" one to remember! Thank you to all who made this possible! It's because of Repairers like you that we can do so much for our Members with so little. For example, the Zeta Phi Beta sorority -Sigma Alpha Zeta Chapter donated a large basket of dental supplies, such as toothpaste and toothbrushes, as well as a generous financial donation. The United Ushers of WI presented us with a generous financial donation, as well. It shows that Repairers of the Breach doesn't begin or end at our doors. Our entire community is part of Repairers of the Breach, including you. Thank you for being a Repairer, and thank you to Zeta Phi Beta and United Ushers of WI! Our Members, along with Green Tomatoes, have been diligently working on our garden since the spring. It looks like their efforts are paying off! Not only are the plants and herbs growing steadily, but they are also extremely healthy and vibrant. Great job! On 5-31-21, we celebrated Memorial Day with our Members by having a delicious holiday picnic. As with every Memorial Day, it was bittersweet; we celebrate those who gave us our freedoms, but we mourn the ultimate sacrifice they made. Big Mike and St. Mary's donated burgers and brats, and one of our volunteers made home made strawberry cake. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who made this possible for our Members! At ROTB, we are blessed to have a community of Repairers willing to help out whenever they can. Carolyn Weber and Dream Bikes are no exception. Their goal is to donate 500-600 bikes to local charities in 2021, and ROTB was a lucky recipient of 13 of those bikes on 2-27-21. In addition to collecting and refurbishing the used bikes, they also provided 5 Masterlock bike locks, and Masterlock plans on donating more. The vast majority of our homeless have no transportation other than their legs, and so donations such as these are extremely welcome to our community. Thank you so much to Carolyn Weber and Dream Bikes, and for anyone wishing to donate a bike to them, they are located on the corner of MLK Drive and North. Special thanks to Weyco and Stan's Footwear who answered our call for help and provided us with over 100 warm winter boots for our Members! And the winner is? ...MLK day, of course! Thanks to Alpha Kappa Alpha's generous meal donation, our Members celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's day on a full stomach!
Granted, some changes had to be made. Because of COVID-19, for example, our Members were spread around the entire building, to allow for social distancing. Lunch was served in to-go container, and the biggest change: our friends at Alpha Kappa Alpha were unable to hang out with us and help serve the food. They were here in spirit, though, and we truly are thankful for their 19th year of generosity. Thank you for being Repairers of the Breach! We had a busy day here at Repairers of the Breach. Not only was it breast exam day, but MSOE donated hygiene kits and other items to our Members. Thank you, Nursing outreach group NU3600! You are truly Repairers of the Breach! A big thank you to Our Lady of Lourdes Youth Ministry, because the youth group HAND MADE warm fleece blankets for our Members! Thank you for being Repairers of the Breach! |
