Our Members, Staff, and Volunteers had a wonderful time doing their part cleaning up Milwaukee at Repairers of the Breach, and they did a wonderful job! Milwaukee has never looked more beautiful. #BigCleanMKE Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter at ROTB with center members and staff. We were honored to provide “services to all mankind” on our sorority’s 116th Founders’ Day Celebration (see a video that appeared on WISN TV12 news which includes ROTB) as well as celebrate Dr. King, Jr. Day of Service. The building included AKA members (a sea of pink and green) in large numbers including youth. The day included programming, hot chilies, crackers, snacks, fruits, beverages, a Soul Food luncheon, and desserts! Members of the sorority served the center members at their seats. We could hear members saying “this is so nice, the food is so delicious, the women are so kind, and wow!” The chapter provided all foods, to-go containers, flatware, napkins, cups, coffee, sweetener, creamer, water, and more. The donations included extra products for future usage. The local newspaper photographer was present for coverage of the celebration. Kind regards, Michelle Crockett
Thank you to all who made our annual meeting a success. A special thank you to our Board Member Michelle Crockett who put in countless hours organizing this event and the Bader Philanthropies, INC for hosting us. From familiar faces like our Volunteer of the Year Doug Drysdale, to new faces like State Representatives Darrin Madison and Kalan Haywood, we were gifted with presentations from many talented speakers, including our Board President Rebecca North and Executive Director Pastor James W West, Jr. Board Treasurer Brandon Bruckman updated us on our finances, and Board Member Jim Podewils regaled us on the Board's wonderful five-year strategic plan known as the "Roads to Success." We look forward to next year's meeting, and if we did not see you there this year, we hope to see you next year! We are blessed to have a wonderful community of volunteers and donors who understand how important their dedication is for Milwaukee and our neighbors. On October 21, for example, Ms. Sarah Herron provided meals for our Members, while Ms. Vickie Kennedy of Total Restoration Mind, Body, Soul, and Spirit INC brought gift bags and hygiene products for the Members. Your dedication helps our Members propel forward to permanent self-reliance by removing barriers such as hunger and decreased confidence due to hygiene. Repairers of the Breach is more of a hub, bringing needs and fulfillment together. It's YOU, the Repairers, who deserve the credit: the Members for your hard work, and the volunteers and donors for making it possible. Thank you! Special thanks to the Green Tomato team (Amy, Heather, DP, and Mr Thomas) who cooked food from the garden for our Members! Healthy, organic food sure is tasty. On 7-20-23, our garden was maintained by our Program Coordinator Danzel Thomas, Executive Director Pastor James W West Jr, Board Member and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter Member Michelle Crockett, Romana Dicks-Williams, John Williams, and two center Members. After weeds were pulled and plants were watered, the gardeners were treated to raspberries, peppers, and onions from the garden, with the latter two used in that day's Breach Cafe lunch. What makes the garden so special, besides the abundance nature provides, is the sense of community felt when everyone works together, as well as the sense of accomplishment and peace felt after a hard day's work. Thank you to everyone who keeps our garden running! Very special thanks to the Milwaukee Transit System for visiting us on July 1st, providing a delicious barbeque meal, and providing needed hygiene bags. Fun was had by all!
