Danzel Thomas introduced the speaker and gave her a tour of the center after the presentation.
Today’s inspirational speaker Chandra Cooper was excellent. She is President and CEO of Grateful Girls, Inc. (Milwaukee, WI) and Legendary Blues Singer Muddy Waters’ MOJO Museum (Chicago, IL). Ms. Cooper started the presentation with the award-winning song “Got My MOJO”. She spoke about her life challenges and successes. Ms. Cooper shared services provided through her agency for women and men. Members identified the popular song and were very interactive with life’s questions. Enjoyed by all 25 in attendance. ---Michelle Crocker, Board Member

Lettuce talk about our August 28th sampling event led by our Lead Gardener Delorse Harrington and Gardner Eria Caldwell. We served 120 Members salads with vinaigrette dressing and included roasted zucchini and squash, accompanied by delicious, fresh fruit. Veggies came from our own Peace Garden and Victory's Garden.
Special thank you to Delorse and Eria, Victory's Garden, and all Repairers who made this possible! Repairers of the Breach had a wonderful Overdose Awareness and Harm Reduction program and lunch (including a Narcan demonstration with updates) for our members and staff on August 31, 2024. The program was well received by members and staff. Each member received a wearable Purple Ribbon upon entrance into the center. The excellent presenters were Catrina Solberg, Prevention Specialist, Vibrant Health and Danzel Thomas, Program Coordinator, Repairers of the Breach. Everyone was very quiet and active participants during Q&A. Members received purple gift bags including Narcan from Vibrant Health. Members visited the beautiful display table to gather additional information. ----Michelle Crocker, Board Member Special thank you to Mr Jason Thompson, outreach specialist at Milwaukee's workforce development for a wonderful presentation! In addition, our own Frank Jelen from our employment assistance center presented as well! We will continue offering as many resources as we can to help our Members find and land those better jobs. Repairers of the Breach is not just a shelter on Vliet St. We are a community made of staff, Members, donors, and volunteers. Today we honor two Repairers: on 8-10-24, both Mr. Martavis McCurry and Minister Shannon generously brought delicious eats for our Members. Thank you!! Anyone who has been hungry knows just how awful the feeling is. Prolonged hunger can even affect how the mind works. That is why one of our most important programs is our Breach Cafe. When our neighbors assist our Breach Cafe with meals, like how Mr. McCurry or Minister Shannon did, or our faith-based friends or other local organizations who bring bagged lunches or prepared meals, it helps reduce our ever-rising Cafe expenses. If you, or your group, wish to donate meals, contact Tommy or Danzel at 414-342-9323 to coordinate a date, or you can specifically restrict a donation to the Breach Cafe by donating through our ROTB Store. Thank you all for being Repairers of the Breach! As part of our "This is My Life" series, Gee Smith paid a visit to us and shared his amazing story, along with telling us about his free clinic on MLK and North. He also gave our Members free haircuts! Thank you, Mr. Smith, for being a Repairer of the Breach. Independence Day takes on a special meaning for us at Repairers of the Breach. As we celebrate our nation's independence, we also celebrate our Members' independence and steps towards it. It was a magnificent day. Delicious food was donated by St Joseph Catholic Parish, we served over 130 meals, we listened to inspirational speaker Dr George Koonce, Jr, we presented some exceptional Members with Independence of Achievements certificates, and we engaged in music, dancing, singing, fun, and fellowship! Our Breach Cafe is ready to make fast use of these delicious looking veggies and herbs. Our Members, Staff, and Volunteers had a wonderful time doing their part cleaning up Milwaukee at Repairers of the Breach, and they did a wonderful job! Milwaukee has never looked more beautiful. #BigCleanMKE Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Epsilon Kappa Omega Chapter at ROTB with center members and staff. We were honored to provide “services to all mankind” on our sorority’s 116th Founders’ Day Celebration (see a video that appeared on WISN TV12 news which includes ROTB) as well as celebrate Dr. King, Jr. Day of Service. The building included AKA members (a sea of pink and green) in large numbers including youth. The day included programming, hot chilies, crackers, snacks, fruits, beverages, a Soul Food luncheon, and desserts! Members of the sorority served the center members at their seats. We could hear members saying “this is so nice, the food is so delicious, the women are so kind, and wow!” The chapter provided all foods, to-go containers, flatware, napkins, cups, coffee, sweetener, creamer, water, and more. The donations included extra products for future usage. The local newspaper photographer was present for coverage of the celebration. Kind regards, Michelle Crockett |
