It's incredibly difficult to move yourself forward during the holidays. You are worrying about staying warm and eating enough. The days are short, and the darkness is long. On top of that, even if you are endeavoring to dig yourself out of poverty, even if you are working so hard, the holidays can break your spirit a little. It can remind you of what you don't have, or what you've lost. The colorful packages and twinkling trees belie the stark difference between the haves and have-nots. Even innocent questions like, "do you have plans this holiday?" can feel like a punch to the gut, as you know, "I'm hoping to eat a meal," would either cause unease or would cause suspicion. That is why your support during the holidays is so incredibly important, and this year, you Repairers really madethis holiday a vibrant and magical day. Nobody who visited ROTB this Christmas had to worry if they could eat or be warm. Everyone who visited ROTB this Christmas received their very own gift. Special thanks to Gail Bennett, Minister Mattie Shannon, Donna Owens from Delectables (who catered), Tom and his wife, all our Board Members, Tommy, Pastor West, Danzel, Ms. Doris, Ms. Greta, Mr. Andrae, and Ms. Brenda for making this day so special. You are all truly Repairers of the Breach. We were gifted with a delicious meal cooked by Minister Shannon and Andrea. Hunger Task Force joined us, and the hope and joy brought by our Repairers warmed all our hearts. It was indeed a magical Thanksgiving. We are thankful for all of you! Edgar Mendez shared his inspiring story with our Members for November's "This is My Life" series. On 11-23-24, Mr. Kenney from Standing With The Homeless served our Members a fantastic meal, as well. So many events from Repairers! On October 12th, St Clare and St Thomas, as well as Minister Sharon and Clearrissia, provided lunch for the Members. On October 21st, Ms Catrina came to provide education on STDs and how they spread, along with lunch. On the 19th, they did testing and a raffle. On November 2nd, Urban Praise Ministreis Pastor Edward Greta and Minister Lee provided lunch for the Members. Also on November 2nd, Repairers staff were treated to a Staff Appreciation Dinner! On Wednesday, October 9, we were gifted with a visit from Mr. Fred and Ms. Adam from Employ Milwaukee, in which they shared how they help people in Milwaukee prepare for jobs, they utilized a wonderful resource table with job listings and interview pointers, and they even practiced mock interviews! On Tuesday, October 8, we were gifted with a visit from Donna Ronghold-Migan, Executive Director of the Cathedral Center and our "This Is My Life" series speaker. We look forward to collaborating more with her in the future! Danzel Thomas introduced the speaker and gave her a tour of the center after the presentation.
Today’s inspirational speaker Chandra Cooper was excellent. She is President and CEO of Grateful Girls, Inc. (Milwaukee, WI) and Legendary Blues Singer Muddy Waters’ MOJO Museum (Chicago, IL). Ms. Cooper started the presentation with the award-winning song “Got My MOJO”. She spoke about her life challenges and successes. Ms. Cooper shared services provided through her agency for women and men. Members identified the popular song and were very interactive with life’s questions. Enjoyed by all 25 in attendance. ---Michelle Crocker, Board Member Lettuce talk about our August 28th sampling event led by our Lead Gardener Delorse Harrington and Gardner Eria Caldwell. Special thank you to Delorse and Eria, Victory's Garden, and all Repairers who made this possible!
